Rate of Play

36 moves in 80 minutes, followed by 15 minutes to finish the game, with an increment of 15 seconds per move from move 1.

Submission of Games for Rating

All games played in this congress will be submitted to the ECF for rating. It is a condition of entry that entrants rating information will be published on the ECF and EACU websites.

Rating to be used for Entry to Tournaments and Pairings

The rating lists to be used for admission will be the November 2023 ECF list.
The rating lists to be used for pairings and prizes will be the January 2024 ECF list.

Mobile Phones and other Electronic Devices

Mobile phones must be switched off in the playing area, and must not be on a player s person at any time during their game. Any player whose mobile phone makes any sound during play, or who is found to be using or consulting any device capable of suggesting chess moves, will be immediately defaulted that game.

Late arrivals

Players arriving more than 30 minutes after the scheduled round start time will be defaulted. Players without opponents should expect to be re-paired 30 minutes after the start of a round.

Byes

A half-point bye may be taken in any of rounds 1 to 4. The recommended way of requesting the bye is at the time of submitting the player's entry. However, a bye can be requested at any time up to the conclusion of the last game to finish of the round before the bye is required. Players may only request a single bye. Subsequent byes will score 0 points. A bye taken in the last round will score 0 points.

Payment

Entries can be made online from the Congress website. Please use bank transfer to pay the entry fee to the EACU bank account, details of which are on the entry form and the entry webpage. Alternatively, cheques payable to 'East Anglian Chess Union' should be sent, together with the completed entry form, to Adrian Elwin, 3 Lilac Close, Newton Longville, Bucks, MK17 0DQ. Payment by bank transfer can be made upon request to the Congress Organiser.

Website

Entrants names and ratings, along with pairings and results, will be displayed on the Congress website.

Photography

Any photographs taken at the event may be used for publicity purposes. If any entrant objects to this, they must inform the Congress Organiser.

Refreshments

There will be free, self-service, tea and coffee facilities available. We request that players clean their own cups and cutlery.

The venue is close to Newmarket High Street and there any many places that sell food and drink that are open for usual commercial hours.

No Smoking

Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.

Car Parking

There is no car parking at the venue. There are pay and display car parks within easy walking distance.

Right to refuse entry

The Congress Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry without being required to state a reason.

Disputes
In all matters, the Congress Organiser s decision is final.
